Graduation exhibitions have a clear distinction from other organized exhibitions. All art students are required to participate in it in order to graduate. The exhibition is not tailored to a specific project or artist, but only to the works of students graduating in the same year. All students are taking their first steps as artists by showing their hobbies and tastes, their lives and stories. The three keywords ‘art, university, and graduation’ describe the exhibition, as it is a testament to what they have learned and accomplished in the four years of university. The 2024 Sungkyunkwan University Art Department Graduation Exhibition, ‘The Bonds Formed in Dispersion,’ was organized under these characteristics of a graduation exhibition.
In the four years leading up to graduation, a student undergoes personal growth. This growth is a process in which the ‘learner’ discovers new unknowns, fueled by their own curiosity. Continuous exploration and discovery leads to a constant questioning of what each person is capable of creating. A single exhibition anchors each result in the same time and place. It is the moment when each person’s scattered time becomes everyone’s time. Before the scattering that is graduation, we hope that this exhibition will prove that we have come together for a moment.
